In Windows 11, apps can access your microphone to capture audio. While many apps use this feature for legitimate purposes, such as voice calls or dictation, you might want to restrict them from recording audio for privacy reasons. Windows 11 provides built-in tools to control microphone access at both system and app levels to prevent audio from being used or changed. Stay tuned as we will discuss it in this article.
If your goal is to block apps from recording audio, disable microphone permissions.
In the Settings window, select the Privacy & security tab from the left-hand pane.

Scroll down to the App permissions section, and click Microphone from it.

Turn Off the toggle for Microphone access.

This prevents all apps on the device from using the microphone. However, system audio playback still works.
If you do not want to disable the microphone entirely, you can block specific apps from recording audio by toggling Off the specific ones under the Let apps access your microphone section.

Note: You can always return to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone to adjust permissions as needed.
Blocking apps from recording audio in Windows 11 is straightforward and helps safeguard your privacy. Whether you want to restrict all apps or only certain ones, Windows 11 gives you precise control over microphone access.
